The aim of this course is to help improve the participants’ English language abilities in the writing of doctoral theses and to enhance their general linguistic abilities through practical work in the following areas:
- Discussion: discussion of students’ problems in relation to writing their doctoral theses in general and their own projects in particular. Assistance with vocabulary, grammar, form and style in relation to the students’ own texts. Advice and correcption will be also given.
- Reading input: examination and discussion of a range of excerpts from specialist texts relevant to those fields in which students are working, as well as from other more general academic texts on a variety of subjects. The aim here is to gain new input and learn new approaches by studying examples.
- Writing: short text production in order to practice working on specific lexical and grammatical problems as well as those relating to form, expression, content and style. This area may also include practice in writing abstracts, applications and CVs. Correction and evaluation of submitted work. Other written exercises may also be introduced to improve various linguistic skills.
